Portrait of Joshua Anani
Joshua Anani · Copenhagen

I am a chemical and process engineer who builds and operates the data and imaging systems behind technical work. My PhD measured antifouling coating performance from underwater images at the CoaST Maritime Test Centre, where I designed and deployed three autonomous camera systems that ran continuously for more than two years. Around them I built the machine learning and image processing at the core, and the databases and automated deployment that carried raw field images through to quantitative results.

Machine learning and computer vision are tools I reach for rather than the whole of what I do. What I care about is the path from a physical process to a result someone can trust. I came to it across more than one discipline and more than one country, training as an engineer in Ghana, moving into coatings and materials research in Egypt, and building applied data systems in Denmark.

I am based in Copenhagen and drawn to problems where a physical process meets the software built to measure it.

Experience

2023 — 2026

PhD Researcher, Chemical Engineering

CoaST Maritime Test Centre, DTU — Lyngby & Hundested, DK

Automated the underwater evaluation of antifouling coating performance from images, owned end to end. Built the standard imaging infrastructure at the centre, from instrumentation in the water through image processing, machine learning, and databases to deployment and dashboards.

2023 — 2025

Graduate Teaching Assistant, Pilot Plant

DTU Chemical Engineering — Lyngby, DK

Reverse osmosis membrane separation, crystallisation, two tank process control, process documentation and P&IDs. Supervised and graded experiment sessions.

2020 — 2023

MSc Researcher, Chemical and Petrochemical Engineering

Egypt Japan University of Science and Technology — Alexandria, EG

Self healing anticorrosion coatings and microencapsulation. Characterisation with SEM, EDX, and FTIR, optimised through Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology, supported by CFD simulation.
